Built for groups

From school camps and outdoor education trips to sports team training weeks and corporate retreats, Ruapehu Ski Club has hosted groups on the mountain for over 100 years. As New Zealand’s largest ski club, our lodges are built around exactly this kind of trip: big shared dining rooms, bunk-style accommodation, and a team who know how to run a smooth week for a large group.

In winter, live-in custodians provide three meals a day, so your group can focus on the mountain, not the kitchen. Our upper-mountain Lodge and Hut sit at 1,800m (a 30–45 minute walk from the road on days the chairlift isn’t running), while our Whakapapa Village and Ohakune buildings are vehicle-accessible year-round, making them a great self-catered base for summer trips too.

How it works

Meals: In winter, three meals a day are prepared by our live-in custodians. Self-catered kitchens are available at our Village and Ohakune lodges year-round.

Getting there: Our Whakapapa Village and Turoa (Ohakune) lodges are vehicle-accessible. The upper-mountain Lodge and Hut are a 30–45 minute walk from the road on days the chairlift isn’t running.

Pitching in: like all RSC guests, student groups take on light daily duties (helping in the kitchen, washing dishes, or a quick clean), usually under 30 minutes a day.
