🥾 Tongariro Alpine Crossing
Rated one of the world’s top ten single-day hikes. Cross an active volcanic landscape — passing the vivid Emerald Lakes, Red Crater (1,886 m), and ancient lava flows — over 19.4 km in 7–8 hours. Shuttles depart from both Whakapapa and Ohakune.
🚵 Old Coach Road
A 15 km intermediate mountain bike trail through ancient native forest on the lower slopes of Ruapehu. Highlights include the historic Hāpuawhenua Viaduct — 45 m high and 245 m long. Grade 2–3, 2.5–3 hours one way, starting from Ohakune.
🌋 Walks & Trail Running
From the 1-hour Taranaki Falls loop to the multi-day Tongariro Northern Circuit Great Walk. Shorter options include Silica Rapids, Tawhai Falls, and the Whakapapa Nature Walk — all within easy reach of the lodges.

A one-off joining fee, then $130 per year. Accommodation is booked separately at member rates. Summer members are welcome at winter lodges at non-member rates outside the summer season.
📋 One Work Party Required
All new members attend one weekend work party per year. They run roughly every six weeks and are genuinely social — a great way to meet the community and look after the lodges.
