Ruapehu Ski Club
Four lodges.
One mountain.
170 beds across Whakapapa and Turoa: ski-in access, full board, and a community unlike anywhere else in New Zealand.
Your home on the mountain
Our buildings reflect the family heart of the Club. Generous living and dining spaces bring members of all ages together after a day on the slopes. All accommodation is in warm bunk rooms: complete with duvets, pillows, reading lights, and personal lockers. Just bring your sheets.
During winter, our on-mountain Lodge is fully catered: a resident chef serves a cooked breakfast, hearty lunches, and a proper evening meal. Village and Ohakune buildings are self-catered year-round, and available for summer bookings too.

Getting There
Two ways up the mountain
Where you’re staying decides how you get there. Whakapapa Village and Ohakune are a straightforward drive; the upper-mountain Lodge and Hut are ski-in, ski-out.
Ski-In / Ski-Out: The Lodge & The Hut
Right on the Whakapapa skifield at 1,800m. Ski or walk in; there’s no road access. When the chairlift isn’t running, it’s a 30–45 minute walk in from the road.
Drive Right Up: The Chalet & Turoa Lodge
The Chalet sits in Whakapapa Village; Turoa Lodge is a short drive from Ohakune township. Both have on-site parking, no lift required.
Whakapapa Skifield · 1,800m
The Lodge
Fresh tracks start right at the doorstep. The Lodge sits on the Whakapapa skifield at 1,800m, one of the most remarkable places to wake up in New Zealand. Our resident chef serves full board meals, while our resident Swiss instructor provides a 40-year tradition of expert on-mountain coaching.

Fully Catered Ski-in / Ski-out Winter Only
Whakapapa Skifield · 50m from The Lodge
The Hut
Fifty metres from The Lodge and surrounded by freshly groomed slopes each morning. The Hut offers the same on-mountain access in a more intimate, quieter setting. Ideal for groups who want their own space without sacrificing the full alpine experience.
Like The Lodge, The Hut is fully catered during winter, with meals served from the Lodge kitchen next door.
Self-Catered Road Access Year-Round
Whakapapa Village
The Chalet
Sitting in Whakapapa Village, The Chalet is the ideal road-access base for skiing both Whakapapa and Turoa. Plenty of parking outside, and perfectly positioned for non-skiing activities too: the Tongariro Alpine Crossing and Taranaki Falls walk are both within easy reach.
A popular choice for school groups, sports clubs, and families who prefer a village base with easy access to the mountain. Available year-round for bulk bookings.

Self-Catered Road Access Year-Round
Ohakune · Turoa Ski Field
Turoa Lodge
Spread across two floors, Turoa Lodge is the most spacious of our village buildings, with large communal areas, a games room mezzanine, and plenty of room for everyone to spread out after a day on the Turoa field.
Plenty of parking on site. Ohakune town is close by for restaurants and supplies. Available year-round: a great summer base for mountain biking and the Tongariro trails.

Est. 1923
Glacier Hut Museum
Whakapapa Skifield
The first building ever constructed on the upper Ruapehu snowfields. Built in 1923, Glacier Hut now serves as a museum: a living archive of the Club’s century-long story, displaying artifacts and photographs from the mountain’s history.
Not available for accommodation, but worth a visit when you’re on the field.
